Abstract
Intra-articular injection of corticosteroids was first employed in the management of rheumatoid disease by Hollander in 1951, which have been used with dramatic clinical responses in various arthritic conditions. This effect was explained by anti-inflammatory action of steroids.
Many authors, however reported the repeated intra-articular injection of steroids resulted in early degenerative changes of cartilage Charcot¢¥s arthropathy and aseptic necrosis.
Recently, the clinical and experimental studies have demonstrated that steroid medications cause biochemical and structural changes in the articular cartilages
